Mr. Barney Parsons MA (Oxon), an Oxford psychology graduate and statistician, has over 15 years experience in research for the marine and offshore energy industries as both a qualitative and quantitative researcher. He specialises in evaluating markets for new products and services, forecasting market demand and obtaining independent customer feedback. Working with major marine and offshore companies and also with start-up companies, his work has helped to assess the potential of new technologies and markets and to signpost routes to market through the use of customised research programmes. He has carried out many detailed international qualitative customer surveys, which have been used by senior management to obtain independent detailed opinions about company performance as seen from the point of view its customers.

He is the author of several published studies and articles, including ‘The World Marine Propulsion Report’, published by Douglas-Westwood, which used a specially developed model to forecast world demand for marine propulsion equipment. Other publications include a major forecasting project for the Marine Foresight Panel – ‘Global Ocean Markets’. Dr Parsons is a member of the Energy Institute.
