David Benson has been proactive as a leading and internationally well known transport Manager and senior executive in the transport world for over 35 years, his most recent post being as Chief Executive of Sea Containers Ferries and Deputy Chairman of Silja Line. He has held senior positions in the Virgin Group including being a director of Virgin Atlantic Airways and was a regional manager for British Airways in the Middle East. His train experience is as Chairman of Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) and as Chief Executive of Venice Simplon – Orient Express tourist trains. His ferry experience also includes being a director of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co, managing director of Wightlink Ltd, and Passenger Marketing Director of P&O Ferries. During his time with Sea Containers he was responsible for over 8,000 employees, a turnover of US$1.5 billion and assets worth US $1.3 billion.

David holds an MA from Cambridge University and a Master of Science in Industrial Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights. He is a member of the British Committee of RINA,the Italian classification society.
