Mary Klugherz

Mary Klugherz specializes in cruise port and tourism industry development. Mary is a 25 year veteran of the cruise and tourism industries. Early in her career she managed a major tour operator that packaged cruise tours. Later, she was the Director of Marketing for the Alaska Division of Tourism, overseeing international marketing programs for Alaska and working closely with the cruise industry. As a result of the relationships built with the cruise industry in the 1980s while at the Alaska Division of Tourism, she has known and remains in direct contact with senior level executives at all the major cruise lines. As a cruise and tourism industry consultant over the past 15 years she has directed a number of cruise and ferry-related projects that included port development strategies, economic impact studies, market analysis, cruise passenger and port call forecasts, cruise berth capacity analysis, regional cruise capacity analysis and tariff and rate studies for a various ports in North America.
Consulting assignments included port tariff studies (including study of Caribbean ports), cruise passenger and port call forecasts, cruise berth capacity assessments, cruise port strategic planning and home port development studies. Her clients include the Vancouver Port Authority, the Port of Seattle, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, the Alaska Division of Tourism, Tourism British Columbia, Northwest Cruise Ship Association, convention and visitor’s bureaus and tourism attraction developers.
Mary was responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of the State of Alaska’s award-winning international tourism marketing program. She managed a multi-million dollar marketing budget that included advertising, public relations, collateral development and market research.
